Common Name: Rinkhals
Scientific Name: Hemachatus haemachatus
Diet: The rinkhals has a varied diet. Its main prey is toads, but it also eats small mammals, amphibians, and other reptiles.
Overview: The Rinkhals is similar to a cobra but smaller. It seldom grows larger than 1.2m in length and tends to be a dark-grey or brownish colour with irregular spotting lighter browns and creams.
Reproduction: They give birth to 20–35 live young, but as many as 65 young have been recorded.
Conservation Status and Threats: The rinkhals generally prefers grassland habitats because it allows them to blend in with the surroundings. Rinkhals also may live in swamps around southern Africa.
