Scientific Name: Spheniscus demersus

Diet: Small pelagic fish like Pilchards and Anchovies

Overview: Flightless birds well adapted for life on land and in water. They are also known as Jackass Penguins due to their loud donkey like sound. Easily identified by black and white plumage.

Reproduction: Monogamous – Breed with one partner for life (Few exceptional cases). Lay two eggs on land. Incubation and feeding of chicks shared equally between mating partners.

Natural Enemies: Sharks, Killer Whales In water), Cape Fur Seals(Land and water). Mongoose, Domestic and wild cats, Cape genets (On land).

Threats: Endangered - Pollution; Overfishing
