Welcome to Bayworld, Nelson Mandela Bay
One of the leading tourist attractions in Nelson Mandela Bay, Bayworld is unique in Southern Africa, embracing a natural and cultural history Museum combined with a Snake Park and Oceanarium, and a house museum at No. 7 Castle Hill. It is located in the heart of the Port Elizabeth beachfront and serves up a feast of edutainment to hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
The main activities of the Complex are research and education aimed at stimulating a greater awareness of the need for conservation of South Africa’s natural and cultural heritage. Research and education programmes focus on marine life, reptiles, maritime and local history.
our covid-19 approach
Our approach hasn’t changed since the start of the pandemic.
We have done the following:
- To minimize the transmission our employees come to work for two or three days per week.
- The wearing of masks are compulsory.
- Sanitize is regularly done and temperatures recorded when employees set foot on the premises.
- Sanitizers are at strategic places within the complex also at the classrooms.
- Social distancing is encouraged and employees are discouraged from visiting other sections unless its work-related.
- No patron is allowed on the complex without a mask.
- Social distancing is also maintained when patrons set foot on the complex.
The PE Museum
Blending cultural with natural history and is the third oldest in South Africa.
No. 7 Castle Hill
A Victorian house museum dating back to 1827 and is declared a National Monument.
Oceanarium
Come and meet some of the many marine mammals that live in Algoa Bay.
Snake Park
Bayworld Snake Park has been in existence since 1919 and houses various reptiles.
