Outreach Programme

Outreach is an integral part of the education programme at Bayworld and is geared towards learners from grades 0 to 7. A number of schools within Nelson Mandela Bay and the surrounding areas find it economically challenging to visit the facility. Many have never seen the ocean. With the Outreach Programme, the sea is literally taken to the learners in the form of actual sea sand, shells and seawater. The learners can then experience the sea by seeing, touching, tasting and smelling. Structured lessons consist of presentations about animal classification, habitation, feeding and conservation. Posters, worksheets and mounted specimens make the lessons even more visual and interactive.

Outreach programme for 2009

• 25 - 31st March - Scifest Africa (Grahamstown)
• 8 - 15th May - National Science Week Cradock. This includes the launch on the 8th, Career day on the 9th and the week's programme from the11th to the 15th May.
• 12– 16th October - Marine Week (Port Elizabeth)
