Functions

Bayworld offers striking and unique venues for cocktail functions, dinner receptions, promotions, product launches or meetings and can be tailored to suit persoanl requirements.

The venues include magnificent galleries in the Museum where guests can be seated among historical artifacts and exhibitions, or surrounded by the birds and marine mammals in the Oceanarium as well air-conditioned meeting rooms.

Bayworld is ideally situated on the beachfront of Port Elizabeth, 4km from the airport, 3km from the CBD and within walking distance of four luxury hotels and an array of Bed and Breakfast facilitites.

Venues

The Dinosaur Hall

The Dinosaur Hall traces the development of life on Earth from 300 million years ago. Treat your guests to the life-size models of prehistoric reptiles that enchant the gallery.  Ideal for intimate cocktail functions or early morning breakfast meetings.  Seats 40 guests and can accommodate 60 guests for cocktails.

The Marine Hall

Perfect for evening dinner receptions - the Marine hall displays a number of marine invertebrate groups featuring many species of fish including the coelacanth. The Hall is dominated by a southern right whale skeleton, suspended from the ceiling.  Seats 50 to 150 guests, accommodates 200 guests cinema style and up to 300 guests for cocktails.

Xhosa Gallery

The interesting colour and pattern combinations in the beadwork display will surely add cultural dimension to your function. The Xhosa gallery will take you on a journey of the development of local Xhosa culture and genealogies of the various clans.  This venue is well suited for intimate get togethers.  Seats 20 to 30 guests and can accommodate 60 guests for cocktails.

Oceanarium

Between the large dolphin lake and the seal pool enclosure rests the Oceanarium’s open area that is ideal for cocktail events, high teas, picnic settings and gatherings. This location allows guests to view our Cape fur seals gracefully swimming or basking in the sun. The location is a beautifully landscaped area which includes a swimming hole and a picturesque waterfall, and the scenery is enhanced by the display of penguins and other sea birds. Dining in this area will prove to be the perfect and unique Oceanarium experience.  This outdoor area can accommodate up to 250 guests for cocktails.

Underwater Observatory

Well known for hosting breakfast functions, the underwater observatory in the Oceanarium provides a lovely setting for intimate functions.  Seats up to 30 guests.

Aquarium

Guests have the opportunity to be seated amongst the tropical and temperate fish and invertebrates of the Eastern Cape. Here, one can spot the mighty ragged-tooth shark, various fish species, or view South Africa’s national fish, the Galjoen, the bashful octopus and the brainy cuttlefish in our new small tank aquariums.

Meeting Rooms

Boardroom

22 Delegates can be seated around a large parmarfin wood table in an air-conditioned, soundproofed room with wall-to-wall carpeting.

Lecture Hall

A maximum of 110 delegates can be accommodated cinema or 80 delegates classroom style in this air-conditioned venue.

The Bay Dome

Revitalization of the old Tropical House building has already begun for a modernized function and exhibition environment that will ensure venues catering for different functions and the needs and interests of contemporary society. The Bay Dome, once completed, will be able to accommodate a 280-seat conference and exhibition setting, a 96-seat auditorium and multi-purpose hall with catering and bar facilities.

Bella Bay Cafe

The Bella Bay Cafe is Bayworld’s onsite coffee shop and preferred function caterer. This intimate coffee shop boasts a hearty breakfast selection, salads, light lunches and a variety of confectionary. In addition to great food there is also the pleasant atmosphere, beautiful décor and personalized service.
